Nick’s Review of the 2012 Never Summer Evo

The low down…

Okay, So I hear we’re getting the new Never Summer boards in to test at Born Extreme. Already I’m excited about the EVO, the graphics look sick and the tech blurb sounds impressive, couple that with currently owning a pair of Danny Kass Union LTD’s inflocked purple and I have everything I need to look pimped and kill it on the slopes. I’ve been riding the board now for a few weeks and absolutely love it, below is mytake on it: -

My Setup…

Snowboard – 11/12 Never Summer Evo 153

Bindings – 10/11 Union Danny Kass Limited M/L

Boots – 10/11 32 Ultralight Size UK 9

Stance – +15/-15 Regular @ 24″

The Ride…

Playful is the only way to describe this wonderful board, I often find boards canbecome boring with always having to put the upmost effort in to get the best out of it. Luckily, that’s not the case with the EVO, The EVO is a very light board and boasts bucket loads of pop, I get so much air andtime to grab anywhere on the board so a massive thumbs up in this area. I also don’t have to put as much effort in as I would with a standard reverse camber board but that’s the joy of Never Summers RC technology (see The Tech below). Plenty of flex make for great flat land tricks, wonderful buttery fun and press heaven. The blunted tips do wonders for spins and you can do flat 180 and 360’s effortlessly.
Switching from edge to edge was quick and sharp on both slow and medium carves,be careful on those long fast carves though as the board can washout (embarrassingwhen showing someone how to crouch down and hang 5 while grabbing the edge on a fast, sharp corner, doh!). This isn’t a problem for me as I don’t tend to be flying around pulling massive carves although if that’s your thing go take the Proto CT for a blast as that offers added stability over the EVO (we have a demo available at Born Extreme).

Kicker wise this board felt fine to me, took off well and was stable enough in air andupon landing although I haven’t hit anything too big yet.

The Tech…

The rocker camber technology (rocker between the feet with positive camber outsideof the bindings) and dampening on this new EVO coupled with the mad flex helped create a wonderful fun riding experience.

To sum things up…

For me Never Summer’s new EVO is for the true freestyle rider, someone that loves the park and having fun all over the slopes, I had this board to test from Andy @Bornextreme, I can tell you one thing it definitely got lost in transit, and I won’t be riding it every week for the foreseeable future ;o). I know a few people have already heard me say this but the EVO really is like bunking off school to hook up with a busty blonde, A whole lot of naughty fun! Go order one now!

2011 Never Summer Longboards

The guys at Never Summer make some of the most awesome snowboards available on the market today. We don’t only choose to stock them in our store but we also choose to ride them.

However, this is not all that Never Summer make, they also manufacture Longboards (which we also ride), these are like long skateboards used for either bombing down hills at high speed, carving or sometimes even dancing. They are claimed to be the nearest thing you can do to snowboarding on the road. Below is a picture of Never Summer’s new 2011 Heist V2 Longboard, a flex deck which is great for carving on but also has added nose and tail kicks meaning you can throw in sick tricks like nose manuals and shuvits without much trouble:

NEVER SUMMER HEIST V2 2011

Never Summer longboards have come up with a very fresh looking range this year. There are some entirely new boards, and some from last year that have been adapted to improve them. However, all of their graphics have been re-done and they look great! Most of them follow a similar theme incorporating the Never Summer logo and some aggressive looking graphics, however the occasional one, such as the Never Summer Norad really stand out from the crowd with its blue neon graphic!

I personally used to ride a Never Summer Assault, which I absolutely loved. It was the perfect board for me to get started on and after seeing this years version I am really keen to try one out. The one I had was awesome for getting around town and it really progressed my riding quickly. This years model looks even better with its longer kick tail, I am also loving it’s new graphic. I would seriously recommend a Never Summer Longboard to anybody, whatever your level of riding, they have a board for everyone and every riding style and to top it all off they come with a 3-year warranty as standard! You can’t beat that!

New for 2012 The Never Summer PROTO CT Snowboard

So we are out at the french snowboard test. Its the first time as we have been out here for this test. Its a great opportunity to try the snowboards before we order them for the following season.

This first board I tried was the Never Summer Proto CT (Carbonium Twin). This is Never Summers NEW all mountain freestyle board.  They have taken the powerful flex of the Never Summer SL, and blended it with the responsive damping of the Evo to create the ultimate all mountain true twin. The board is smaller than I would normally ride at a 154 but I just had to try it.

Without going into to much detail, the board is basically a stuffer, light version of the hugely popular Never Summer Evo.

So how did it ride…….. Well, like a stuffer, light Evo!! :) They have changed the shape of the nose and tail, blunting it off, they have done the same with the 2012 Never Summer Evo too.

I really, really liked this board. I have always been a fan of the evo but its always been a little soft for my riding style……… (if you can call it style!!) So when I heard about it, I was dying to try it.

The board is also available as a wide and will be called the Never Summer PROTO CTX.

I can’t wait to ride the 157 and will 100% being have one of these personally next season.

We have this board in the shop as it has just come back from one of the big gadget magazines for review. I don’t want to give it back!!!
