I have been riding a longboard for over a year now and absolutely love it! My board goes everywhere with me, it lives in the boot of my car… until I get out of my car and then it goes with me. I ride a Loaded Dervish Flex 2.
I decided the other day to borrow my mates Loaded Tan Tien and compare the two head to head, I got my girlfriend along to help as she is a total beginner and thought she might be able to write a good review. Quite usefully both boards had the exact same set up, Paris trucks (180mm) and Orangatang 4 President Wheels in purple (83a).
So after a bit of a ride on each trying out a whole load of different riding styles I came to the conclusion that I thought they were both awesome boards, they both rode great and were consistent. I thought that the Loaded Tan Tien was probably a little more practical for getting around town than the Loaded Dervish, but was still a whole lot of fun when you wanted to have a play. Though I have managed fine getting around town on my Dervish. See the below table to get a good idea of what all the Loaded Longboards are best at, it doesn’t include the Tan Tien, but I would give it DownHill: 1 star, Hills/Carving: 3.5 stars, Dancing: 2.5 stars, Sliding: 4 stars, Commuting: 4 stars, Pumping: 4 stars and Banks and Bowls: 3.5 stars. A perfect all round board!
Here’s what my girlfriend had to say about them :
“As a total novice, I found the Loaded Dervish a forgiving ride, it was smooth, flexible and seriously stable. The board is a great length, as a beginner I found it manageable, but it still has the potential and enough room to develop your style. The Dervish also looks sweet. The quality of the bamboo against the clean, minimal graphic – painfully cool.”
“The Loaded Tan Tien is a shorter, tight-turning board that repsonds quickly, giving a more aggressive ride. With its kick tails and lightweight bamboo build, the Tan Tien is the perfect board for hurtling round town, whether that’s your route to work, or a beer run! Consistency and symmetry sum up what this board’s about – even it’s graphic says so.”
